A Community Shop for Danehill and Chelwood Gate

Welcome to the web site of the Danehill and Chelwood Gate Community Shop.

Public Meeting - Tuesday 23 Sept 2008 - 7:30pm - Danehill Memorial Hall
Many thanks to all who attended the recent public meeting. The business plan presentation can be viewed here.

Previous Public Meeting - 14 July 2008
102 people attended the meeting held in Danehill Memorial Hall to discuss the future of Danehill Stores.
Several people spoke at this meeting, including a presentation (available here) given by Roy Galley, the Chariman of the steering committee. There was a good discussion with numerous questions from the floor, and the outcome was a positive one resulting in the committee being given a mandate to progress to the next stage with the Community Shop - predominantly the production of a business plan.

Some residents may already know that Gary and Sharon from Danehill Stores intend to move on to different things and have offered first refusal of the freehold of Danehill Stores to the community with a view to turning it into a community shop. There is much more detail in the letter being delivered to households, which you can also read here.

Thank you to all residents who completed and returned a questionnaire. At the time of the public meeting, 84 had been received - but some more are still trickling back in even now!

We aim to have several DHCG Community Shop Information Points around the villages in the coming weeks. There will be information available throughout the coming Ashdown weekend, and there will be information available at Danehill Stores. This is a positive move for the villages of Danehill and Chelwood Gate and we would be very grateful for your comments and suggestions. If you wish to contact any member of our steering group, click here for our contact details.

There are many examples of village community shops which thrive - click here for more information.

There will be a second public meeting at the Danehill Memorial Hall on Tuesday 23 September 2008 at 7:30pm - please come along and air your views on this very important subject.
